Repair roof leaks, or any other structural issues that can cause problems with moisture. Dispose of or relocate any old wood or construction debris that may be lying around on the ground near the building including under decks. Store firewood away from the building. Trim back tree limbs, bushes and brush from having contact with the building. Also keep mulch from contact with wood siding and other wood members. Keep gutters clean and flowing freely. Have a yearly exterior foundation treatment.

Always be careful when obtaining used furniture. Learning what the signs of infestation are and inspecting furniture very thoroughly gives you the best chance of not bringing home bedbug infested furnishings. If you think you've been somewhere that has bedbugs on arriving home you may want to put removed clothing directly in the drier for at least thirty minutes if appropriate for that particular material.
